An investigation by the Internal Affairs Service has begun following a complaint by a 19-year-old woman who states that she was the victim of sexual abuse by two police officers of the DIAS Group at the Omonia Police Station.

The Minister of Citizen Protection, in a post on social media, emphasizes that he has requested an immediate and complete clarification of the case and if the complaints are true, the prescribed procedures will proceed immediately.

“The law is the law and it applies to everyone,” emphasizes the minister.

In detail, the statement of Mr. Theodorikakos states:

“I have instructed the head of the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces to immediately investigate the nineteen-year-old woman’s complaint.

I expect the immediate and complete clarification of the case. If allegations are verified, appropriate disciplinary and criminal proceedings will be initiated immediately. The law is the law. And it applies to everyone.”

According to the information so far, the girl complained yesterday, October 12, that in the early hours of the same day, the two police officers whom she accuses, took her to a room inside the Department and raped her.

According to the same information, the police officers, who were called to the Internal Affairs Service to be examined, categorically deny that there was rape and claim that the girl appeared alone at the Department and made an appointment with one of them after his shift.

As part of the investigation to clear up the case, videos from cameras are also being examined, which the police call upon, while the result of the forensic examination of the 19-year-old is also expected, in order to complete the case file.
