Metropolitan of Demitriados: Any reference to covid-19 and non-vaccination of clergy is prohibited

by

An urgent Circular Note was sent to the Clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Demitriados by Metropolitan Ignatius, returning to the issue of the attitude of our clergy towards the pandemic and the vaccination. According to the note The clergy are barred from any reference to covid-19 disease and non-vaccination, whether in a sermon or on another occasion, as well as in the context of confession.

The whole Note is as follows:

Subject: “Prohibition of non-vaccination placements for covid-19 disease”

Dear fathers and brothers,

With the reference number 724/26/8/2021 Circular My note, last August, I addressed in a paternalistic and paraenetic way to all of you about the difficult situation that continues due to the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic and your vaccination . Unfortunately, I am forced, as it should not be, to return, having exhausted the margins of tolerance and patience for cases of unacceptable attitude of our co-elders that cause enormous damage to our faithful brothers.

From now on we strictly forbid any reference to covid-19 disease and non-vaccination, whether in a sermon or on any other occasion, as well as in the context of your confession and personal communication with your parishioners. Where, through the faithful, we are informed that this prohibition is not observed, we will personally intervene by imposing sanctions, with the first being the removal of the blessing to preach and confess.

Also, as the margins have narrowed, we will personally examine, one by one, the cases of priests who, for no health reason, remain unvaccinated for the deadly disease of the ongoing pandemic.

We hope that you will all abide by our orders and that we will not have to go back. “
