Thousands of believers have been flocking to the monastery of Agios Gerasimos in Omala, Kefalonia since yesterday, to worship the holy relic of the Saint and patron of the island.
Today the multi-priestly Solemn Divine Liturgy takes place in the Holy Church of Agios Gerasimos, while on Wednesday afternoon the Holy Supplication was performed and then the Transition of the Tabernacle of Agios Gerasimos from the small church of the monastery to the big one.
Crowds of believers, among them hundreds of pilgrims from the Balkans, gathered to watch the ceremony with reverence and admiration.
There were not many believers, who traditionally lay down on the paving outside the church, so that the Tent would pass over them.
Meanwhile, a historic church of Lixouri hosts a rare icon, which as a prayer in the lower part, presents an interesting hagiographic composition: Saint Gerasimos (left) with Constantine the Great and Saint Helen (center, right and left of the Cross) and the apostle Paul (right).
The image is of great study interest as it combines the main pillars of the historical course of Christianity in Kefalonia. It is published for the first time, due to the feast of Saint Gerasimos.
