The municipality of Malevizio has already completed and is sending the data on the disasters to the Civil Protection of the Region of Crete.
The “ball” at the Ministry of Infrastructure, for the immediate demarcation of the affected areas from the recent killing bad weather and then the issuance of the Public Order that will define the details of the compensations and the percentage of subsidies for the repair of damages to homes and businesses.
THE municipality of Malevizi has already completed and sent to the Civil Protection of the Region of Crete the data on the damage to houses within its administrative limits, since last Saturday’s bad weather, in which a man and a woman lost their lives.
The Region of Crete, in its turn, checks the completeness of the files, while at the same time collecting applications from the affected businesses, which as of yesterday reached 36. Afterwards, the files will be sent to the Ministry of Infrastructure, awaiting the Joint Ministerial Decision, for state aid and rehabilitation subsidy.
As the Acting Regional Adviser for Civil Protection and PAM -PSEA, Yiannis Leontarakis, told Cretalive, to date the affected businesses that have been registered are 75 – 55 shops and 20 agricultural holdings – but the number is constantly rising as the collection of applications continues.
With regard to the homes that were affected in the municipality of Malevizio, the registration process has been completed and already yesterday the data has been sent to the Region of Crete, in order to “unlock” compensation and repair subsidies after being sent to the Ministry.
From the side of the municipality, from the first moments a process of recording the damages and also supporting those affected for the first urgent needs was initiated. As he told Cretalive, the mayor of Malevizio, Menelaos Bokeas, “a small number of families, whose houses were heavily damaged and in need of immediate repair, are being accommodated in hotels, following the mediation of the municipality, while a solution is being sought for a family whose house was completely destroyed, while for the moment it is being hosted by familiar persons”.
According to the recorded data, a total of 94 houses were severely damaged and are in need of repairs. In Agia Pelagia, 42 houses were damaged, of which 17 are primary residences. In Paleokastro, 44 ​​houses were affected by the bad weather, of which 34 are primary residences and in Gazi 8 houses – 7 of which are primary residences – were seriously damaged by last Saturday’s bad weather.
What the flood victims have to wait for now is the KYA which will define the percentages of the subsidy for the damage to houses and businesses and also the “opening” of the platform through which the applications will be submitted.
The first funding for the rehabilitation of the affected areas to the Municipality of Malevizi
Based on the commitments given by the government echelon to the Malevizi Town Hall on Sunday, October 16, the first funding for the immediate restoration of the damages in the affected areas has already been approved for the Malevizi Municipality, namely:
– 400,000 euros by decision of the Deputy Minister of the Interior Stelios Petsas to deal with the first needs of restoration of the disasters caused by the recent bad weather.
– 200,000 from the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy by decision of the Secretary General of the Aegean and Insular Policy Manolis Koutoulakis to the Malevizi Water Authority for the restoration of damages to the water infrastructure/water supply networks in its area of ​​responsibility from the bad weather of October 15, 2022, which affected the wider area .
– 37,200 euros from the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, by decision of the Secretary General of the Aegean and Insular Policy Manolis Koutoulakis for the hiring of a Special Adviser to the Maleviziou Maritime and Maritime Administration for the recording of damages and the compilation of technical restoration reports.
– Workshops of the Municipality of Malevizio, volunteers as well as private workshops hired by the Municipality continue the work of repairing the damages in the affected areas as well as cleaning businesses and houses from mud and portable materials.
