Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the opening of the renovated historic flower shops of the Parliament this morning.
The Prime Minister was given a tour by the President of the Hellenic Parliament Konstantinos Tassoulas, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and the managing director of ETAD Stefanos Vlastos to the remodeled space, where works from the collection of publications of the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament are now also available.
After his visit, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “It is perhaps symbolic of the country’s course in the last decade that the well-known flower shops are reopening today, after 12 years of being closed, with a different character: not only as florists, as florists, but also as centers of culture, hosting the amazing exhibits of the Archaeological Resources Fund, as well as the very rich cultural and historical production of the Hellenic Parliament Foundation.
It is indeed a colorful day for Athens today, it is a day of joy and I believe that all Athenians as well as the numerous visitors to the city will appreciate the fact that we once again have a space that is identified with the historical memory and the collective subconscious of everyone of the Athenians.
Congratulations to the Ministries, to the ETAD, to the Archaeological Resources Fund, I am sure that the Athenians and visitors to our capital will be happy with these stores.”
The historical route of the Parliament’s florists begins in 1932, when the first stalls selling flowers appeared after the construction of the monument to the Unknown Soldier. Then, by law, 11 “flower shops” were designed and created under the precincts of parliament. Over time they developed into landmarks in the center of Athens.
The reconstruction and renovation projects of the historic flower shops, which reopened their doors to the public, were implemented by a joint initiative of the Hellenic Parliament, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Public Real Estate Company (ETAD).

The interiors have been completely renovated, and in addition to flower shops, the premises now house the exhibition-shop of the Hellenic Parliament and ODAP.
The stores that will function as showrooms will be unified with internal openings of the internal walls and corridors. In fact, semi-outdoor spaces are being created, in which periodic exhibitions can be hosted.
