“The specter of climate change is just around the corner and it’s hitting hard.”
With carbon dioxide at record levels and temperatures continuing to rise, Earth is officially entering “Code Red” status, a new report warns.
An international team of researchers has produced a new report titled “Global Scientists Warn of Climate Emergency 2022,” in which they warn that humanity “undoubtedly faces a climate emergency.”
Professor William Ripple, who was involved in the study, said: Look at all these heat waves, fires, floods and massive storms.
“The specter of climate change is just around the corner and it’s hitting hard.”
The report is compiled by 10 global scientists, led by academics from the University of Oregon.
In it, the researchers analyzed 35 planetary vital signs used to monitor climate change.
They found that 16 of these signs are at record extreme levels, including extreme heat, heat, loss of green space due to wildfires and greater prevalence of the mosquito-borne dengue virus.
“As we can see from the annual increases in climate disasters, we are now in the middle of a major climate crisis, with much worse to come if we continue to do things the way we’ve been doing them,” said Christopher Wolf, co-principal author.
