“The aircraft becomes an extension of ourselves” said the commentator Christodoulos Giakoumis.
On Saturday, the commentator spoke on the Kalimera show with Giorgos Autias Christodoulos Giakoumisthe pilot who moved the Greeks with the message in flight during yesterday’s parade for the anniversary of October 28.
“We are and will remain ready. Honor to those who browse Thermopylae. Happy birthday to Greece and to Hellenism everywhere in the world” he said in his emotionally charged message.
Speaking about the message he sent yesterday, he said that the burden is great, “we are trying to communicate with the Greek people and say that the Armed Forces are here, strong and powerful, we are trying to be as cool and professional as possible”.
He noted that “all aircraft maneuvers are done daily by Air Force aviators at slightly higher altitudes.”
“Making these maneuvers requires a clear mind and composure, little by little working on it, everything is done, the aircraft becomes an extension of ourselves,” he said.
The aircraft was an F-16 Block 52 Plus based in Chania. It is one of the most modern in Europe, he said.
When asked if he got into a fight with Turks, he answered that this is a daily routine for all pilots, we have come face-to-face many times.
He noted that “all the Armed Forces are really ready for anything”
Regarding how the pilot who will deliver the message is chosen, Mr. Giakoumis explained: “Because this is a way to communicate with the people on the occasion of the anniversary, the entire demonstration team sits together and thinks about how we are going to spend two or three verses the message. And so we end up with a specific message.”
