Criminal prosecution in the degree of felony was brought by the First Instance Prosecutor’s Office against the doctor of AUTH, who allegedly trampled to death a newborn kitten, last summer, in Thessaloniki.

After his identification by the police, a case file was created, which was forwarded to a prosecutor, who eventually charged him with “murder of a companion animal.”

Based on the new law, the specific felony is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

According to information from GRTimes, the accused was referred to apologize to an investigator and is expected to be summoned to give explanations before the Court in the near future.

The investigation by the Animal Protection Department of the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki resulted in the identification of the man, who was recorded by a store camera stepping on a stray newborn kitten with his foot, at night, on Ermou Street.

For the 40-year-old Ph.D. of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, there are several aggravating factors, according to the police.

During the preliminary investigation, it was found that the specific man was also recorded by other cameras of adjacent stores, while the case file also includes the testimony of a woman who saw him, for life, walking around the scene, when the brutal abuse of the unfortunate animal took place.

Another witness testified that he found the kitten dead and threw it in a trash can.

A police source told GRTimes that the doctor has a history of animal abuse and psychiatric problems, and when called to testify in court, he denied the charge, saying witnesses can be wrong.
