The president of the Athens-Piraeus Hospitals Association, Matina Pagoni, expressed her optimism about the course of the pandemic, speaking to SKAI and the show “Simera”.

As he said, although the Omicron mutation is starting to spread in Greece, after the two new cases recorded in Sitia, Crete, the incidence index is gradually decreasing. “However, the rate of deaths and intubations remains high and will be in the coming days. “A gradual reduction will begin on December 25,” he said.

He added that although Omicron appears to be more contagious, it has mild symptoms, the patients are not hospitalized and at the moment we have no deaths, while for the vaccines the first indications are that they are catching it, but not as much as the other mutations. .

Ms. Pagoni stressed that it is particularly gratifying that more than 20,000 appointments have already been scheduled for children aged 5-11, which means that parents are beginning to persuade them to vaccinate their children.

Regarding the third dose, he noted that people should be convinced that it is necessary, as it staffs the body with antibodies.

Asked if a fourth dose would be needed, she said it was most likely. “From now on, it is more likely that we will get the vaccine every year, as we do for the flu. “I believe that the fourth installment will not be before the summer, because with the third installment the body will have been fortified enough and according to the latest research, it covers us for nine months”, he underlined.

Regarding the complaints about Vip ICU, the president of EINAP clarified that the hospital doctors, whom she represents, do not keep closed beds. “With a list of 160-170 intubated people outside the ICU, there is no way they can have beds and not put them. “If Mr. Giannakos had such information, he would have to proceed with some other procedure”, he concluded.
