“Neighborhood babysitters”: Who can apply, what supporting documents are required – Guide to 10 questions and answers

The “Neighborhood Babysitters” program will be piloted in 61 municipalities of the country and is designed to support working parents and especially mothers in practice.

The process of submitting applications for registration in the Registry of Supervisors of the “Neighborhood Babysitters” program is underway.

In this context, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs ppresents 10 helpful questions and answers with information that is of interest to all those who want to register in the Registry of Curators and be certified as curators.

As stated in a related announcement, the “Neighborhood Babysitters” program will be implemented as a pilot in 61 municipalities of the country and is designed to support working parents and especially mothers in practice.

Here are the questions and answers:

“1. How can I apply to be added to the Register of Stewards?

To register in the Registry, you must submit your application online, which you will find on the ntantades.gov.gr website. You do not need to provide or send any documents.

2. Do I have to pay to register on the Register of Trustees?

The application process is free.

3. What supporting documents are required for registration in the Registry of Curators?

Persons who are adults, have formal qualifications of proof of knowledge of the category of baby nurse, have a certificate of first aid for infants and children and medical opinions of suitability from the specialties of pathologist/general practitioner, dermatologist and psychologist are eligible to submit.

The supporting documents that those who wish to register on the “Register of Curators” must have are the following:

– Copy of vocational education certificate or of the Post-High School Apprenticeship Class for Nursing Assistants specialty or an equivalent qualification or Diploma of Professional Specialty, Education and Training Level 5 of a Vocational Training Institute (I.E.K.) – Specialty: Nursing Assistant or Preschool Education Creative and Expression Activities or Preschool Day Care for children with special needs, or an equivalent degree, a degree from a Technological Educational Institution for Infant Care or Preschool Education or Early Childhood Education and Care or an equivalent degree, or a university degree in Early Childhood Education and Care or an equivalent degree or a degree from Higher School of Infant Nurses of the Baby Center “I MITERA” and PIKPA Ioannina.

– Certificates or opinions from doctors from a public health structure, specializing in a psychiatrist, for his good mental health, a dermatologist for the control of contagious skin diseases and a pathologist or general practitioner for the control of airborne diseases.

– First aid certificate for infants and children.

– Copy of valid general criminal record.

– A responsible statement stating that the person concerned has not been deprived of parental care, is not under legal support, has no lawsuit pending against him and has not been convicted of any felony.

Foreign residents must additionally have:

– Residence permit or other valid legal document that provides access to work.

– Recognized B1 level Greek language certificate for foreigners who are not graduates of secondary, post-secondary or tertiary education in the country.

4. I do not have a first aid certificate for infants and children. What can I do;

You should enter the online application environment at ntantades.gov.gr, where you are required to state whether you have a first aid certificate for infants and children, choosing YES or NO. There you should say NO and immediately the field “I am interested in attending first aid courses” will appear, which you should select. In this way, you will declare your intention to participate in a free EKAB seminar and you will be included in the list of trainees. You will then be notified of the time and place of your training.

It is noted that the theoretical training takes place asynchronously, through the EKAV e-class, and the practical training and examination take place on the same day, once your theoretical training has been completed.

Caution: If you do not have a certificate, you can proceed to fill out the application, but you cannot submit it until you have the certificate.

5. Is my place of residence a condition for participation?

For your participation you must be sure that you can offer your services in the municipalities where the program is implemented. That is, you must be able to go from your home to the child’s home every day.

6. What exactly does the curator do?

Home care for children includes, but not limited to, the following services: taking care of the child’s personal hygiene, providing food to the child, according to the nutritional plan set by the parents, preparing the child’s meals, observing the rest/sleep schedule of the child designated by the parents, care for the child’s adequate clothing, organization of educational and play activities according to the child’s age and level of mental and physical development.

7. What are the curators’ working hours?

When submitting the application online, you are invited to indicate your availability of hours per day. However, you will agree on your exact working hours with the parents, with whom you will conclude a private agreement.

8. Can someone who is already working or retired apply?

Yes. People who are already working can apply as long as their working hours allow and they meet the criteria. Pensioners can also apply, as long as they meet the criteria and follow the provisions of the current legislation on the work of pensioners.

9. Is there an age limit for inclusion in the Register of Trustees?

As long as the interested parties meet the invitation criteria, there is no age limit.

10. Why should I register in the Register of Trustees?

Because by registering on the Register of Caregivers, you enhance your professional profile as you have all the conditions to work officially and legally in the field of home babysitting.

Your work is legal and you get insurance.

Registration in the Register of Caregivers does not exclude your employment in a nursery.

You adjust your working hours and the number of infants to whom you can provide your services in a way that serves you in cooperation and direct consultation always with the parents.

Your fee is not set by the program, i.e. we do not regulate or limit it, instead your fee will be set, after consultation directly with the parents.
