“Medical School: Between Science and Culture”

The Medical School of the European University of Cyprus, co-organized by the Pancypriot Medical Association, is organizing the 10th International Bio-Medical Conference, “Medical/Bio-Medical Scientific Cyprus”, with the general title: “Medical School: Between Science and Culture”. The three-day Conference is under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, the Cyprus Cardiology Society, the Cyprus Biological Society, the Pan-Cypriot Association of Cancer Patients and Friends, and other links, companies and associations. The official opening ceremony will take place on Thursday 3 November at 17:00, while the three-day conference will conclude on Saturday with the announcement of the Nobel Prize-winning doctors Sir Martin Evans and Sir Gregory Winter as Honorary Doctors of the School of Medicine of the European University of Cyprus.

The Conference is attended by 75 international speakers from world-renowned institutions abroad. Key speakers at the Conference will be the well-known Nobel Prize-winning professors of Medicine and Chemistry, Dr. Gregg Leonard Semenza (Nobel Medicine 2019), pediatrician and professor of genetics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. Sir Gregory Winter (Nobel Medicine 2018), Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge and o Dr. Sir Martin J. Evans (Nobel Medicine 2007), Professor at Cardiff University. Also among the speakers will be professors Dr. Cyprus Nikolaidis“Father of Fetal Medicine”, Dr. Nikolai Korpan (cryosurgery), Head of the International Institute of Cryosurgery at the Rudolfinerhaus Hospital in Vienna, and President of the World Cancer Movement, and the Dr. Stylianos Antonarakis (Medical Genetics) from the University of Geneva.

The conference, among others, includes 5 interactive presentations on cardiology with real cases, as well as open discussion with expert medical professors, on Thursday and Saturday.

As part of the conference, on Saturday 5 November, the Cyprus Institute of Cardiology, Research and Study of Myocardiopathies and other Hereditary Cardiovascular Diseases (KIKEMM) is organizing an information workshop on the Pre-Sports Medical & Cardiological Checkup for the prevention of sudden cardiac death in young people and athletes, offer of the Cyprus Sports Organization. There will also be CPR workshops from KYSAN and airway clearance from the Society of Anesthesiology, as well as proprietary information seminars for students.

Attendees will receive certification with 18 points of Continuing Education from the Cyprus Medical Association, as well as 18 points of Continuing Professional Development from the Cyprus Biological Society. Participation is free and registration opens at 08:00 on the morning of Thursday 3 November.

The medical conferences of the Medical School of the European University of Cyprus stand out with the participation of international speakers from world-renowned institutions abroad. The multi-thematic, scientific conference of Medicine / Bio-Medical has established itself as a high-level, annual international meeting. This year, scientists from Poland, Greece, Africa, Turkey, Iran, United Kingdom, Israel, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, etc. declared their participation. The Conference has been presented for the last three years in its world-renowned scientific journal of Nature publishing house “Cell Death & Disease”.
