Pharos Summit – The US State Department looks forward to even more synergies and joint efforts with Greece

30 American and 24 Greek universities will collaborate, with the aim of stimulating student mobility and promoting cooperation at the level of higher education institutions

Yesterday’s opening event of the “Pharos Summit 2022” was the occasion to seal the cooperation of the USA and our country in the framework of their shared vision for education.

In addition to the presence of Ambassador Tsunis, who stated excited about the progress that has been made in Greece, characterizing as a “miracle” the improvement of the economic climate in the countryand the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America, responsible for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Lee Satterfield, declared in her posts on twitter her real enthusiasm for the Summit and its cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Greek government, pointing out that Greece one of the US’s oldest educational partners.

Excited by the effectiveness of the cooperation with Greece, the American Minister thanked her counterpart Niki Kerameos for her tireless advocacy and leadership in Higher Education issues, emphasizing that the Greek Minister has a positive effect on both American and Greek students in on a daily basis, saying: “I’m excited about what’s going to happen in the future.”

While he added that “we look forward to even more synergies, joint efforts and look forward to seeing the incredible impact (…that the Summit will have) on both American and Greek students and scholars”.

It is recalled that 30 American universities and 24 Greek ones will work together, with the aim of stimulating student mobility and promoting cooperation at the level of higher education institutions.

At the event – which was attended by representatives from all the Higher Educational Institutions of Greece and from 30 leading Universities in the USA – three synergies were announced that have been launched in the context of the international academic collaboration program that started in September 2019. These are the following collaborations:

1. National Technical University and Columbia University,
2. Ionian University and Johns Hopkins University,
3. National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Yale University.

Noteworthy is the new collaboration between EKPA and Yale, which provides for the exchange of students from the two institutions and the attendance of tuition-free courses.

It is also recalled that through the mouth of its president, Lee Bollinger, the establishment of the Columbia International Education Center in Athens was announced, which will aim to enrich the teaching, scientific and research work that is developing in Greece, in osmosis with the Greek HEIs and the Greek university community.
