Charges to drivers who are late in arrivals – departures of Athens International Airport expected to impose the airport “El. Venizelos” in order – his administration claims – to put an order in the accesses of arrivals and departures.

The administration of the AIA proceeds to configure inputs and outputs in the road sections of access to the departures and arrivals areas, which will be controlled with an automatic system of tilting bars, in order to avoid overcrowding.

The time of passage, stop and exit of the vehicles will be set at 10 minutes and drivers will be charged beyond that located at arrivals and departures.

According to the statement, “taking into account both capacity needs and travelers’ complaints about the negative image of congestion created by vehicles parked illegally at the approaches, the project – whose work will begin in November and be completed before the next summer – concerns the configuration of entrances and exits to the access road sections to the departures and arrivals areas, which will be controlled with an automatic system of tilting bars. For the specific interventions, which are fully compatible with international practices, as they are now applied in most major European airports, transport studies have been carried out that prove their functionality”, claims the airport administration.

The amounts that will come from this charge say from the airport that they will be allocated to support the road safety agency. At the same time, the provision of free parking time in the Short Term 1 & 2 car parks for 20 minutes will continue to apply to all users without exception. Special provisions will be made for travelers with reduced mobility and increased needs.
