At the arrest of a 32-year-old Turkish smuggler, who had disembarked yesterday morning in Skandari, Kos, at least four immigrants who did not have the necessary travel documents, with a speed boat, the Port Authority of Kos said.

A chase ensued, during which the speedboat made dangerous maneuvers resulting in warning shots being fired by the Coast Guard in a safe area. Targeted shots were then fired at the speedboat’s outboard engine, which was immobilized and its 32-year-old foreign operator was arrested as a trafficker.

Following thorough investigations in the wider area, four foreigners were identified, two of whom were minors.

According to the announcement of the Port Authority, the operator of the vessel did not respond to the light and sound signals of the patrol vessel, developing speed in the direction of the Turkish coast.

A chase ensued, during which the vessel made dangerous maneuvers, “resulting in firing warning shots in a safe area. Subsequently, targeted shots were fired at the outboard engine of the above speedboat, which was immobilized and its 32-year-old foreign operator was arrested as a trafficker.

Following thorough investigations in the wider area, four foreigners were identified, lacking legal documents, of which two were arrested as the other two were minors.

A preliminary investigation is carried out by the Port Authority of Kos.
