Specifically, according to thestival.gr, the perpetrators of the attack noticed the presence of plainclothes policemen and attacked them on Agios Dimitriou Street. One machine would not start and was abandoned at the scene, as a result of which it was set on fire by a mass throwing of Molotov cocktails.

Shortly after 6:30, the march of the KKE and PAME for the 49th anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising in the center of Thessaloniki began. The course started from the polytechnic school of AUTH. At the head of the march is the Association of Imprisoned and Exiled Resistance Fighters. Labor unions, members of the KKE and PAME, student associations and other political organizations also participate. Earlier, a gathering was held at the Polytechnic School of AUTH.

The traffic police have stopped traffic in a large part of the historic city center in order for the march to pass.
