“The journalist does not have to collect evidence, he is obliged to have information and cross-reference it and publish it,” said Yannis Mantzouranis, lawyer of journalist and editor of the newspaper Kostas Vaxevani.

“In this particular case there are proofs and documents and witnesses. Mr. Vaxevanis, if he presents himself to the competent authorities, will be judged by him and his defense counsel,” emphasized Mr. Mantzouranis, noting at the same time that “justice can still collect the evidence that is still available to the perpetrators…”

“I didn’t say that the evidence was destroyed but that from August to now too much evidence to say the least….either destroyed but in my opinion gone, some keep it as a savings fund for future use and are not recovered” said Mr. Mantzouranis pointing out that “the weakness of the evidence enables the Supreme Court prosecutor to immediately prosecute and assign the case to an investigator and proceed immediately”.

“Each witness can tell the truth, they can also tell tales – I will tell you clearly, there is sound, there is an image, and there is also a testimony” emphasized the lawyer for three alleged witnesses who have given evidence of surveillance of people while underlining that “they have kept material which they are willing to present to the prosecution authorities, apparently if they are placed under protection status”.

Responding to a related question, Mr. Manzouranis stated that the Novartis case is different, pointing out that those accused were innocent from the beginning, which is why their cases were archived.
