“Every square meter of public space is necessary for Athens. By systematically removing abandoned vehicles from the center and neighborhoods, we have managed to free up valuable parking spaces for residents and professionals, ensuring the smooth running of the city. At the same time, we are dealing with the aesthetic degradation in these places, but also the risks caused to public health and the environment. For his part, the Deputy Mayor of Cleanliness and Recycling of the Municipality of Athens, Nikos Avramidis, points out: “The Municipality of Athens is intensively continuing its efforts for a clean city. Our goal is to continue with all the means at our disposal to rid the city of everything that pollutes it and degrades it aesthetically.”

Complete recycling of materials

All the abandoned cars removed from the streets of Athens are recycled. Based on proper environmental management and in accordance with the rules of the circular economy, vehicles are taken to certified alternative vehicle management facilities, where the prescribed process of recycling and recovery of their materials is followed. Materials such as batteries, tires, mineral oils, plastics, fuels, metals, etc. they are disassembled from the vehicles and then separated in order to be reused. In this way, no material goes to waste, as almost all materials are recycled.
