Filiates: The deputy mayor and the employee of the Municipality who “threw” puppies are referred for a felony

by

Both were remanded and will appear before the coroner next Monday.

The prosecutor charged the employee and the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Filiaton who were brought before him today for a felony, specifically animal abandonment.

Both were remanded and will appear before the coroner next Monday.

The puppies, a few days old, disappeared from the town of Filiata on Wednesday afternoon.

Yesterday at noon, after a phone call from an unknown person, the Police were informed that a worker at the Municipal Stray Animal Shelter dumped some puppies in an area near the Kalamas dam. During the investigation that followed, the dogs were not found, but the worker, when questioned by the police, admitted his act and said that he did it on the order of the competent deputy mayor.

This morning during an autopsy on a property owned by the vice-mayor, the veterinary service of the Epirus Region found six puppies, in good health, according to the report of the veterinarians, and from the Municipality of Filiat there is a claim that they were collected and transported there.

But even this argument did not convince the prosecutor, since – if it is the same animals – the act of removal from their mother and abandonment had already been done.
