The Digital Disability Card will be a proof for all public services without exception – Holders showing it will be served as a priority in public services
The operation of the Digital Disability Card begins, which from today (21/11) can also be stored on the mobile phone.
This reform, which was a constant demand of the disability movement, was presented today at a press conference at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis, the Minister of State and Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Domna Michaelidou.
As pointed out, the Digital Disability Card will be a proof for all public services without exception, without our disabled fellow citizens constantly looking for new disability certificates for every contact they have with the State. It will also gradually integrate all the individual services that each public body provides to the disabled based on the degree and type of their disability.
In the interview it was noted that the Digital Disability Card and the Disability Register are being activated, two more pillars of the National Disability Portal, i.e. the information system where all the digital processes related to disability are gathered. The National Disability Portal started operating from September, when and the first – and very important – pillar, the “digital KEPA” (digital disability certification process), was implemented.
The Digital Disability Card designed in collaboration with the National Confederation of Persons with Disabilities (ESAMEA) will function like the student pass, proving the identity of its holder and his status as a person with a disability against any public authority and third party. Holders with the demonstration of it will be served as a priority in public service services, using it as a justification instead of the disability certification, without being required to share their sensitive personal – and especially medical – data. In the next period, benefits will be added to the Card, so that finally all the benefits related to each disabled person will be integrated. The Disability Card can be issued from 1 November as a printable document (like the vaccination certificate). From today it is also available as a digital application for mobile phones, being the third identification document that enters the wallet.gov.gr digital wallet.
It will also be released in plastic form in the near future.
