Without a teacher for 23 days, students in a primary school in Syros

by

The sixth grade of the school in question has been left without a teacher and the vacancies are being filled by seven different teachers from other departments

Without a teacher the second part of the 6th grade of the Poseidonia School has been left for 23 days, as a result of which the students have missed several teaching hours, while the several teachers from the other classes are trying to cover as many hours as they can so that the children can take lessons.

According to the parents’ complaint the teacher is on parental leave from 10-31-2022. The teacher’s parenting license was approved in May 2022 and the gap that would arise was known, until today, 22-11-2022, no other teacher has come to take over the department but there is no specific assurance to fill the gap either.

In particular, the parents state in their statement: “The director of the Poseidonia school informed us that she has taken all the necessary actions, both verbally and in writing, to cover the gap.

The director of Cyclades Primary Education informed us that the vacancy was given and there was no interested party deputy to fill the position. A teacher was then seconded, who requested repeated leaves of absence. In fact, in a communication that a mother of a grade 2 student had with a member of parliament of the Cyclades, she was informed that “the teacher in question does not want to go to school and the solution is for the principal and vice-principal to teach the students”!

Since yesterday, in fact, the solution applied in the department is for them to enter seven different teachers to teach the studentss of ST2! They do not include the teachers of the specialties.

Given the problems that existed with the pandemic in the previous school years (closing of schools, extended teaching via distance learning), we consider it imperative to immediately hire a teacher who will take over the department until the end of the school year. A teacher who will be both in charge of the department and a reference person for the young students”.
