THE Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarakisstated:

“Today we are signing what we promised to the local community of Lesvos 3 years ago, since we took over the management of immigration in our country. We attribute to the local communities that shouldered the burden of the immigration crisis not only the area where thousands of immigrants and refugees passed and lived, in inhumane conditions, but also the necessary funding for the restoration of the environment for the local community. Within 2023, the New Controlled Closed Structure of Lesvos, in Vastria will be a reality. With the creation of the new structures, the protection of the human rights of refugees and immigrants is achieved on the one hand, and on the other hand the protection of the security and harmonious living of local societies. The effective management of immigration on our islands is sealed with yet another implementation of our promises to local communities.”

THE Mayor of Eastern Mytilini, Mr. Stratis Kytelisstated:

“Today, the transfer of the former KYT of Moria to the Municipality of Mytilini takes place, in order to utilize the space for the benefit of the local community that suffered so much in previous years. The “disgrace of Moria” that discredited our place, after its closure, is now handed over to the local community to use the space, since our decision is to build the new Music School and the Special School there, as well as University infrastructure Aegean. In this case, the advice of the Minister of Immigration Mr. Notis Mitarakis as well as the Vice President of the Parliament Mr. Charalambos Athanassios was decisive. Together we will coordinate the further actions for the utilization of the space.”

THE Vice President of the Parliament and Member of Parliament of Lesvos, Mr. Charalambos Athanasioustated:

“Another personal commitment of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is being implemented.

The property (field), on which the Moria Military Base (Paradelli Camp) operated, is granted by the Ministry of Defense to the Municipality of Mytilini, following a decision of the Prime Minister, in order to build and house the Music School of Mytilini on it, at public expense , the Unified Vocational Gymnasium-Lyceum of Lesvos (ENEGYL), as well as the student center.

Everything we say becomes action and this is the Prime Minister’s commitment.

I would like to thank the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Michalis Bekiris, who coordinated the whole project. Also, the Mayor Mr. Kytelis, since the services of the Municipality fully responded to our every request for the rapid processing of the preparatory works in Mytilini. Finally, I would also like to thank the President of the Municipal Community of Moria, Mr. Mastrogiannis, for his immediate response to each of our requests.

The Mayor’s ambition now, and mine, is the rapid construction of the buildings and their delivery in full operation.”
