The revelation that his sister, Katerina, has breast cancer was made today by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, through his Facebook account.

The prime minister posted a photo hugging his sister and invited all women between the ages of 50 and 69 to take advantage of the free mammograms through the “Fofi Gennimata” program.

“Today, I share with you a family problem of mine because it comes to bridge a difficult human moment with a public policy. Unfortunately, a few days ago, my sister Katerina was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, however, the tumor was detected early, in her preventive mammogram,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“Now begins a great adventure. Katerina had her first chemotherapy the day before yesterday. She faced the unpleasant news with her characteristic calmness and optimism. And she has every reason to be optimistic because she discovered the malignancy at an early stage. Science has made great strides in the treatment of breast cancer, and excellent cancer care is provided in our country. Besides, it is certified by the tens of thousands of Greek women who emerged victorious from this battle. I know that every health check up causes us fear or hesitation. But he is necessary. In fact, for all women between 50 and 69 years of age, the state offers free mammograms, through the “Fofi Gennimata” program. Take advantage of it! In the last months, we have already detected more than 3,000 cases of breast cancer at an early stage, with a very good treatment prognosis. One of them is Katerina…” concludes the prime minister.
