The overall planning for Attica
Afterwards, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure spoke about the projects of Attica that aim to offer solutions to the traffic problem that afflicts the Basin.
According to Mr. Karagiannis, “construction sites have already been developed at the 15 stations of the new Line 4 of the Metro” and he underlined the important contribution it will have to transportation.
“With Metro Line 4 we will serve the heavy urban fabric and we will densify the metro stations in Athens, something the city needs” noted the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure.
He insisted on the value of Fixed Track Means, bringing as an example the Metro in Piraeus that “changed traffic”, as Mr. Karagiannis characteristically said, emphasizing that “from November 1 to 20 over 450,000 citizens have used the new stations”.
As the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure pointed out, “in the next period we will tender the extension of Line 2 of the Metro to Ilion with three stations, an important project of around 500 million euros that has a completion horizon of 5 years”.
In addition, “the Suburban Railway of Western Attica will be announced in the next few days” according to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure.
Mr. Karagiannis commented that “the more than ten-year crisis left us far behind in infrastructure projects. This has changed as over the last 3.5 years we have planned and implemented a program of projects that the country has not seen since the 90s.”
“We are trying to solve the problems created by the lack of infrastructure projects, it takes time, but we will succeed” he underlined.
Asked about the traffic in Kifissos, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure emphasized that “we are examining with the Region of Attica, to which the administrative responsibility of the road belongs, solutions and mainly specific interventions that will alleviate the problem”.
“What is needed to solve the traffic problem is an extension of the Metro and Suburban network, new buses, modern highways” added Mr. Karagiannis.
In this direction “we have already tendered the largest urban tunnel, the extension of L. Kymi and its connection with PATHE, while we are proceeding in the near future with the tender of the Western Regional Aigaleo, while soon we will also announce the plan for the extensions of Attica Way”, pointed out Mr. Karagiannis.
“The issue with Patron-Pyrgou was not when it will happen but if it will happen”

In the wake of the visit with the Prime Minister to a construction site in Patras – Pyrgos, Mr. Karagiannis commented that “the issue with the new highway was not when it will be done but if it will be done and today we have construction sites and we are three months ahead of schedule”.
“I believe, in fact, that we will be six months earlier than the schedule provided for in the contract and therefore deliver the project into operation much earlier” estimated Mr. Karagiannis.
According to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, “the implementation of the BOAK in Crete and the E65 in Central Greece is running in parallel”.
Regarding Thessaloniki, Mr. Karagiannis made special mention of the Flyover “which will double the volume of vehicles that will be served and together with the Metro that will be delivered at the end of 2023, the city will have the image it deserves” .
In closing, Mr. Karagiannis pointed out that “not only are we progressing consistently in the implementation of our program, but we are also one of the governments that deliver the projects ahead of schedule”.
