The 26-year-old driver of the car that pulled over and abandoned the 21-year-old studentTuesday mornings, on Egnatia street, in Thessaloniki.
The 19-year-old passenger of the vehicle who is accused of complicity in the above acts was released with restrictive conditions.
She was banned from leaving the country.
The above decisions were taken with the concurrence of the investigator and the prosecutor
The 26-year-old accused, through his lawyer, submitted a written statement but did not want to respond orally to the questions of the 5th investigator.
“It is not time to give explanations, condolences to the family” he said and allegedly asked not to apologize in substance.
His lawyer, out of respect for the family’s grief, did not make any statements.
The 26-year-old is charged with dangerous driving causing death, a felony, driving without a license and desertion.
In her confession, the 19-year-old reportedly said the following: “I was in the car and I was looking at my mobile phone. Suddenly the driver swerved to the left to avoid the girl. He braked and the car flipped upside down and crashed into parked vehicles. I tried to get out of the car three times. I wanted us to go back.”
He is charged with simple assistance (mental assistance) in dangerous driving and desertion.
For the 26-year-old, it emerged that he was residing illegally in Greece.
During preliminary investigation, the driver of Albanian nationality allegedly denied that he was running, claiming – among other things – that he left the scene of the accident because he was afraid, as he does not have a residence permit.
