Cameroon’s first-choice goalkeeper is dropped from the squad ahead of the match against Serbia

by

Cameroon’s main goalkeeper, André Onana, was removed from the team’s delegation hours before the match against Serbia, scheduled for 7 am. According to the international press, the player argued with the coach about divergences in the way of playing and is out of the World Cup.

The Cameroonian Football Federation has not yet released any information about Onana, but in the released lineup it is Devis Epassy who appears in the starting lineup.

Onana currently defends Inter Milan and has been a constant in the Cameroonian national team since their participation in the African Cup of Nations. He started in the match against Switzerland, in the first round, and would start this Monday. The African team will also face Brazil next Friday (2), at 4 pm.

The goalkeeper passed through the base of Barcelona and was also at Ajax. He is 26 years old and a year ago he overcame a nine-month suspension for doping. His first games were defending Cameroon and helping to secure the points the team needed to advance in the African Cup of Nations.

This is just one more of the delicate situations that Cameroon is going through in this World Cup. The international press questions the influence of Samuel Eto’o, the current president of the federation, in command of the team and even in the choice of squad, since coach Rigobert Song was unable to pronounce the names of some at the time of the release of the list.
