If Copa is lacking beer, Copa inspires breweries around here. This is the case of Tarin, from Nova Lima (MG), which made a series honoring the five titles of the Brazilian team.
Tiago Laborne, brewer and owner of Tarin, turned 18 during the 2002 World Cup, the year of the penta. Therefore, he was old enough to drink in the final. “The Cups have always touched me a lot, I’ve only seen the last two titles, but I can say that my Cup was the 94, I still see the matches of that World Cup today”, says Laborne, who had the chance to attend two of the team’s matches in 2014, the victory against Chile on penalties and the tragic 7-1 against Germany.
In cans with a beautiful design, the series comprises five beers, all variations of the Indian pale ale style, named after the year of each achievement.
Thus, we have 58, a quad IPA, or quadruple IPA, with 11.2% alcohol and color that looks like passion fruit juice, in fact, the aroma is also tropical fruit. Another beer in the series is 94, an IPA with coffee from Minas Gerais, with 6.1% alcohol.
The careful design of the labels uses the colors of the host country in the number and an illustration of the last goal of the Cup. In the case of the 94, the image is of a kick from the penalty spot over the crossbar, the last shot of that World Cup in the United States (thanks, Baggio). Still on the front of the label, there is the score of the game, the date and the name of the stadium where the final was played.
To top it all off, the package includes the complete campaign of Brazil in the said Cup on the back. The fifth beer in the series is yet to come out, 02, which will have cashew and coconut in the formula. Laborne warns that the label should arrive in the middle of the Qatar World Cup.
While penta’s beer doesn’t arrive, hexa’s is already on tap. Cybeer Lab, in Moema, launched Hexa Decimal, a brut lager with 6.0% alcohol.
Anyone who wants to drink beer at the brewpub during the Brazil games will be in for a pleasant surprise. The Hexa Decimal, as well as the house pilsner, enter the “double draft beer” promotion, buy one and drink two.
