A special appellate investigator has been assigned to investigate the case of the arrest of a 34-year-old Iraqi man a month ago for involvement in ISIS, a involvement he allegedly confessed to.
The accused reportedly named other people who may be involved in Islamic State arms (these people may have already crossed Europe) for this and it was decided that the investigation, which is pending in the 21st regular interrogator in Athens, be upgraded.
Thus, at the request of the Athens Prosecutor’s Office, the Plenary Session of the Court of Appeals was convened due to the seriousness of the case and for reasons of national security, and it was accepted that the case be assigned to a judge of increased prestige and experience. The decision of the Plenary Session is to assign the case to the Appellate Court Ioanna Stratsiani.
The 34-year-old was arrested after information from the Counter-Terrorism and a video depicting him in a Syrian area holding a Kalashnikov and verbally praising the actions of ISIS.
The video was posted in the New York Times in 2014.
The Iraqi was arrested in Athens as a member of the “Islamic State” and ELAS announced that the arrest was made “after utilizing information provided by foreign collaborating services and in collaboration with the National Intelligence Service (NIS)”.
