At arrest one 24 year old of Albanian origin advanced today at dawn police officers of the Sub-Directorate of Special Operational Actions of the Attica Security Directorate, who is accused of participating in a group of people who attacked police forces outside the Student residence University of Athens.
The 24-year-old was charged with violence against officials and judicial persons, disturbance of public peace, attempted grievous bodily harm, arson, explosion, manufacture and possession of explosive incendiary materials.
According to ELAS, in the early hours of the morning a group of people placed improvised incendiary devices in a car dealership, located near the student residences of the University of Athens, as a result of which a fire broke out and extensive material damage was caused to 4 vehicles, as well as minor damage to another 3.
Then when police forces arrived at the scene, a group of people attacked them by throwing at least 25 Molotov cocktails, stones and flares, without any damage or injury being reported, while the people then set fire and destroyed 6 trash cans.
3 Molotov cocktails were found in the arrested person’s backpack and seized, while the incendiary devices that did not explode at the car dealership were collected by a team of the Explosive Device Disposal Department and will be sent to the Criminal Investigation Department for laboratory examination.
The case is being pre-investigatively handled by the State Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate, while the arrested person with the case against him is being taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
