Statements by the Minister of Labor at an event on “Greece is changing: Social policy and reform vision”
The new subsidized employment positions that the government will officially announce tomorrow amount to 68,000, announced today the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, underlining that the ND is steadily walking the path of “social policy with results”.
Speaking at today’s event on the theme “Greece is changing: Social policy and reform vision”, which was organized by the parliamentarian of the ND 2nd District of Thessaloniki, Theodoros Karaoglou, Mr. Hatzidakis pointed out: “We give answers every day in the field and with specific results. They can invoke their old and “cobwebbed” slogans, but we in all areas of social policy produce concrete results”.
Referring to the issues of the unemployed, the family and demographic policy, the issues of the disabled, the issues of pensioners, Mr. Hatzidakis emphasized “everywhere, we give concrete answers. The reduction of unemployment didn’t happen, it succeeded. It is the result of a specific economic policy followed by the government. We lowered taxes and became more attractive as a country for investment. We correspondingly reduced the insurance contributions, pensions are now issued in two months when in Germany 74 days are required, we simplified business licensing and passed a labor law, which strikes a balance between the protection of workers and the competitiveness of businesses”.
In this context, noting that “we have done more than what we said before the election”, Mr. Hatzidakis clarified “we want clean accounts with the citizens. The economy has entered another trajectory and we are sharing a growth dividend.”
For the upcoming national elections, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs said that citizens judge and compare and see that on the one hand “they have a government that may have made some mistakes, but it has also done important work on the other hand they will have a wrong government. We Greeks vote for our families and our country. Do we want a return to disaster or progress?’ he wondered.
“The Tsipras government only made cuts to pensioners and we, from 2019 onwards, only give increases. And in fact you will see four different increases”, pointed out Mr. Hatzidakis and added that “what we have achieved in the field of social policy can be and will be our flag in the coming elections. And it is something that without any doubt causes embarrassment to our opponents.”
Among other things, he emphasized that the upcoming elections are more critical than ever, because as he explained, “in our country from 2019 to today many steps forward were indeed made. What is crucial, especially for the young guys, is to preserve what we have achieved and take further steps forward. Let there be no turning back. That is why the re-election of New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis is necessary”, he emphasized.
The ND government is sharing the growth dividend fairly
“Our policies are not only about money, but also about improving the lives of workers, the disabled, young couples and pensioners,” emphasized the parliamentarian of the ND 2nd District of Thessaloniki, Theodoros Karaoglou, at the beginning of his statement, adding that the government “distributes fairly » the growth dividend to workers and businesses.
Underlining that social policy is the tip of the government’s spear and social care is the bulwark in the energy crisis and precision, Mr. Karaoglou pointed out that “for almost four years the government has been implementing social policy with results.”
Among other things, he invited those present to reflect on where the country was before the 2019 nationals and the leaps of progress that have been made in the last four years despite external difficulties.
“In the national elections of 2023, two worlds are competing. One of realism and responsibility and the other of easy promises and delusions. So when we stand before the ballot box, we are asked to decide whether we will continue forward as a nation or return to the pathologies of yesterday. A self-reliant ND means a guarantee of stability,” he said.
At the event, the Regional Director of DYPA of Central and Western Macedonia, Dimitris Kanellidis, was appointed and referring to the evolution of OAED into DYPA and the unemployment de-escalation policies, he said: “The work is not going to come to us
found at home. The pandemic triggered a period of transformation in the national and economic life of the country. In this light we come to the conclusion that we should not be interested in an economic development with the main criterion only the increase of the product without
other criteria. I therefore propose as a basis for planning DYPA’s programs and entrepreneurship and employment actions is the local social dialogue which will be structured according to the logic of prioritizing the needs of societies”.
The general secretary of the Thessaloniki Labor Center and president of DAKE Private Sector, Dimitris Brusas, noted that Greek society is in constant flux and that a lot has happened in the workplace. “Increasing the income of households in this period is not only about the social sensitivity of the government but primarily about the functioning of the economy and the state of the labor market. The condition of economic insecurity should not turn into a condition of social insecurity,” he pointed out.
