Evelina Papoulia testified about another incident involving Petros Filippidis, when he tried to sexually assault her.
“Uglyness, authoritarianism, hysteria” are some of the characteristics he attributed to his personality Petrou Filippidis the actress Evelina Papoulia in her testimony before the MOD that is trying the head of the group for sexual violence against three of their colleagues.
The actress, who referred to his undeniable talent her accused colleaguetestified in court about the course of their professional relationship which, after specific incidents, was terminated by her decision.
According to the witness, Filippides had terrifying changes in his behavior which slowly showed an escalation: “I had heard that he had beaten, that he was circling his genitals. I had heard about the incident with the car and the girl and I had said “that’s too much”. According to Mrs. Papoulia, “Filippidis could not be woken up by anyone. He was supported by a family. His talent supported him, not the man. They hadn’t realized the point his condition had reached.”
Recounting her own experience with the accused, the witness mentioned that they worked together for the first time in 1996-1997, when she substituted for an actress friend of hers. “I have to admit he was very giving during the three days of rehearsal. He was positive with me and protective. I felt comfortable. Along the way what I saw was that it was changing. It was shifting, the situation was changing,” said Ms. Papoulia, who then described “the fact that shocked me because I have never faced it before in my life.”
According to the witness, while she was on the scene, the accused in the quintes “has pulled down his pants… I am shocked. I try to keep playing. I didn’t react, I didn’t say anything. It has happened again in the same way. Maybe a third had happened.” After these incidents, as Ms. Papoulia testified, there followed an attempt by Petros Filippidis to “squeeze her into his dressing room”, which the witness avoided: “I push him, but he’s like, ‘haha.’ He realized he couldn’t go on. The next day he came into my dressing room, I told him to come out to get ready. Then the collaboration was completed.”
According to the witness, the fact that they had entered boundaries helped and restored their relations as “I recognized his vulgarity, his authoritarianism, and of course his talent. We could work together professionally. We worked together again on “One-off” and he was perfect. If I had only met him there I would have told you he is great and said “what did those girls do to him!”. After that we collaborated on “Educating Babi”. There I met a new person again. In permanent hysteria, intense throughout the set. Around 2001-2002.”
The witness testified that their relationship broke down when she realized, while they were about to teach in the Theater Studies Department at IEK, that he was talking about her in a derogatory way: “He was talking to a director and he started belittling me. I was reading his lips. He said to him “from where and where does Evelina teach?”. He was laughing and making fun of me. She comes next to where I sit alone. She sweetly says to me “what’s up Evelina?”. I cursed him to his face. We enter the hall and he began to knit my praise! I think that Paxinou has not heard such words! That’s where it ended for me. I said I won’t work with him again.”
