Bakoyannis to SKAI: “We want food, not indecency”

“Athens is not a warehouse, the supply of stores can be done at night like in all the big cities in the world” said the mayor of Athens

On SKAI radio, the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, spoke about the three current issues concerning the Municipality: the trade association’s reaction to the proposal to open the shops only at night, the accessibility of the disabled and the criticism of the rich festive decorations.

For the supply of stores and loading and unloading, the mayor emphasized that “we want supply, not filth” and that “Athens is not a warehouse”.

“The proposal of the ban from 9 in the morning to 9 in the evening throughout the city does not work punitively (for the merchants) but ensures the rights of the citizens (to avoid traffic jams).

Athens is not a warehouse, the supply of stores can be done at night like in all the big cities in the world” he said characteristically.

For disabled accessibility

“Throughout Athens, 52 roads have been built with new sidewalks, 583 ramps and there are 4 new fronts” said K. Bakoyannis.

He also said that “illegal parking sensors have been installed on ramps at 800 corners in the city which immediately alerts the municipal police.”

For decoration and “energy-consuming” lights

“All the Christmas decoration and lighting of the city is led – which means much more light but also more economy” said K. Bakoyannis.
In fact, the mayor of Athens emphasized that “we will exceed the ministry’s goal for energy savings, without turning off the lights in any neighborhood of Athens.”
