It starts at Mixed Criminal Court of Rethymnonthe case of 20-year-old Yiannis, a child who grew up amidst violence, crime, rape, abandonment and threats, in the village of Glossa in the Municipality of Platanias.
Accused is the 66-year-old neighbor of the house who is accused of “perpetrating a sexual act” on the minor, while the father is accused of exposing his child to danger. Both were remanded in custody last July after their apologies, with the father to be released on his own terms in January 2022.
For the same case two priests have also been detained with the case against him concerning the performance of a sexual act and the abuse of a minor.
How did the case become known?
An anonymous telephone complaint stated that the child resides with his father, who is divorced, and that he had reports of neglect and physical abuse. Specifically, the complainant reported to the Social Service of the Municipality of Platanias that the father is an alcoholic, while about two years ago Giannis was also sexually abused by a person outside his family environment, as a result of which he was taken to the hospital with bleeding.
“Fire” documents for the eternal torture of the child
The documents of the social services and the experts who performed an autopsy in the “house” where the child lived, are revealing of the miserable conditions that Giannis lived in for a number of years.
The fact that similar complaints were made in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017 (!) is appalling, but without any result.
On June 28, is sent at the Protodiki Chania prosecutor’s office, the conclusion of the Social Service of the Municipality of Platanias, after an autopsy carried out at the child’s home.
“The house was obviously neglected, with intense filthiness inside and outside, with scanty and broken furniture, it gave the image of an abandoned house, with no human presence in it. In the autopsy of the interior, we observed an abundance of garbage and inedible food. Giannis’ room was very humid and there was only an old bed inside, without a mattress, only the boards and a woolen blanket that covered half the surface of the bed and acted as a mattress.”
In the same conclusion, extensive reference is made both to the attitude of the child’s (currently remanded in custody) father, as well as to himself, since it was obvious that he was afraid to speak.
The social worker, he describes the personal conversation he had with the child, leaving the house: “Hesitant and very scared at first he confessed to us, that he was sexually abused 3-4 years ago (being then a minor, about 14 years old), by a person he named, in the rural residence of the last”.
After describing how the child was persuaded by the alleged perpetrator to follow him, comes the victim’s nightmarish account: “He stripped and sexually abused him for about 20 minutes. The child tried in vain to defend himself, he was shouting, crying and begging to let him go…”.
“On completion of the heinous act, the child returned home covered in blood, reporting to his father what had happened. Semi-conscious, he was taken by his father to two hospitals with uncontrollable bleeding.
At the hospital, he told us that he explained to the doctors exactly what happened, yet he was not hospitalized, which raises many questions for us,” the social workers note in their conclusion.
According to reliable information, Giannis was transferred to the Chania Hospital on February 26, 2017, but the attendant rushed to take him before he was examined by the doctors, since it seems that he went to the Emergency Department of the Foundation at 11:10, to leave at 11:20, without of course a reason for leaving!
