Livadeia: A policeman was stopped inside the AT – He was brought back with CPR by the EMS staff

by

He is now hospitalized out of danger at the 401 GS hospital

A 40-year-old policeman was injured in a fight inside the Livadia Police Department where he was on duty, and ended up without a pulse in the Emergency Department of the Livadia General Hospital.

Luckily for him, the EKAV staff who arrived at the scene knowing their job very well, performed two cycles of cardiorespiratory resuscitation, also using an electric defibrillator.

Also, the transfer to the Livadeia General Hospital was very quick, where the doctors took over and managed to bring him back.

The 40-year-old is now being treated at the 401 Military Hospital and everything shows that he escaped danger.

As the General Surgeon, Director of the Surgery Department at the Livadia Hospital Konstantinos Plakostamos points out in his post, it is one of the small victories in their hard daily life.

Read what he wrote:

“Today 07.12.22 / 09.45 at Livadeia hospital a young man was saved from certain death. The successful treatment of the 40-year-old policeman’s emergency was initiated by the trained EKAB crew who received him and subjected him to two cycles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including electric shock. So the first congratulations are certainly deserved for these people and it is not the first time that they achieve the completely self-evident bordering on the miraculous without anyone recognizing it.

The 40-year-old police officer who was stopped inside the Livadeia police station quickly arrived at the emergency department of the hospital, apneic and with no pulse. With the coordinated efforts of the anesthesiologist, cardiologist, TEP doctors and nursing staff, the efforts to revive him continued and were crowned with success.

The patient underwent CT scans of the brain, chest, upper and lower abdomen in an attempt to find the cause of the arrest but also possible brain damage due to anoxia, because until that time there was no clear cause of the arrest as well as the patient’s history.

After he was stabilized, he was transported to the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens, accompanied by a doctor by an EKAB ambulance, and with the first indications, it seems that he will, unexpectedly, fully recover. He had already begun to react to various stimuli before his transfer, a sign that his brain had not yet suffered irreversible damage.

Such victories give wings to our feet, give us years of life and all we wish is to repeat them as often as we can. Don’t deprive Livadeia hospital of staff when it can work and benefit, for better or worse we are much more useful and necessary than the politicians who unfortunately decide for us. Do not move doctors for non-serious reasons, the consequences of such decisions are immediate and serious.

We have been bringing the problem of its staffing to the municipal council for a long time, at the last municipal meeting we finally achieved unanimous support which we hope will be translated into projects and become substantial. More specifically, it was decided:

Definitive suspension of the movement of nephrologists, pediatricians and any other doctor from Livadeia hospital. Ensuring at least basic staffing in specialties so that we can operate on emergency cases every day of the month. First, we do not want to delay the cases so that they can be operated on elsewhere and the patient and his environment suffer. The radiologist is becoming the most serious problem for us and must be resolved immediately. There are only two and one is already on extension due to impending retirement. The establishment of a chemotherapy department with the addition of the necessary nursing staff will relieve particularly vulnerable groups who cannot travel to Athens for chemotherapy treatments. Someday this too must be done.

The citizen of our region has been grossly wronged for years now because his health cannot be protected with the existing development regime of the health facilities. The Livadeia hospital must and must have trained and experienced staff because we are far from other nearby tertiary hospitals of Chalkida – Lamia. The critical first hour as this is scientifically predicted and is the one that decisively determines the outcome of the patient’s health when he is in an emergency, does not apply to patients in our area due to distance.

In the midst of political narratives about the alleged handing over of public health to the private sector, we close our ears. The health of the citizen ONLY by the NHS can be ensured much more when it is directly threatened. To the younger citizens to whom the possibility of damage to their health seems particularly remote, and they are the ones who mainly slander and slander, only one exhortation is suitable, fight and support it for your own people at least.
