About 300 protesters arrived at the scene with the slogan “He lives and guides us, Georgios Grivas Digenis”
Tension was noted in the afternoon outside the building of the House of Representatives of Cyprus when demonstrators wanted to protest against a resolution regarding Georgios Grivas Digenis, according to which the Leader of EOKA is characterized as unworthy of any honor from the homeland.
With the resolution filed by AKEL, which the Parliament voted in favor of last Friday, for the Democratic Resistance on the occasion of December 7, the Day of Remembrance of the Resistance Fighters, the State is called upon to stop funding any kind of activities related to the performance of prices in Georgios Griva, “whom history condemned as unworthy of any kind of honor from the homeland”.
About 300 protestors they arrived at the point with the slogan “He lives and guides us, Georgios Grivas Digenis”. Among other things, slogans such as “EOKA again in the mountains of Cyprus”, “Rogue traitor politicians, Cyprus is Greek”, “Anarchists and Bolsheviks, this land does not belong to you”, were heard, while some demonstrators shouted abusive slogans against MPs.
The tension spread to the offices of the EDEK party, where unknown persons caused damage.
The President of ELAM, Christos Christou, members of his parliamentary group, ELAM officials and the independent Member of Parliament, Andreas Themistokleous, spoke to the protestors.
The President of EDEK, Marinos Sizopoulos, who was at the Plenary meeting for the passing of the 2023 Budget, left the meeting, while a little while later he spoke of premeditated and pre-planned thuggish action.
The condemnation of the events by the entire Parliament was collective.
