Alarm signaled yesterday morning to the Greek authorities after being notified by an NGO about its existence of illegal immigrants on the island of Evros. According to what was announced by the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the Greek authorities found that the islet does not belong to Greece. Following this, the Turkish authorities, Frontex, and the NGO were informed.
The statement reads: “The Greek Police was notified yesterday (8/12/2022) in the early hours of the morning by the NGO “Watch the Med” about the existence of illegal immigrants on the island of Evros. The Greek authorities in cooperation with the competent service of the General Staff of the Army examined the coordinates given to them. From the control it emerged that the point does not belong to the Greek territory. Immediately, the NGO, Frontex were informed and the Turkish authorities at the international station of Captain Andreevo were notified by NOTAM for the collection of the migrants”.
