The member of K-pop group Big Bang, TOPwill be one of eight civilian crew members on SpaceX’s upcoming moon mission being organized by Japanese billionaire, fashion mogul and art collector Yusaku Maezawa.
In a video about the “dearMoon” project, TOP’s participation in the trip to the moon in 2023, funded by the Japanese billionaire, was officially announced. The trip will take place in a spacecraft developed by SpaceX and is the first private civilian mission to the moon.
TOP, musician and actor will become the first South Korean citizen to visit the Moon. “I am very honored to be chosen as one of the crew members of the dearMoon project,” says the 35-year-old K-pop icon in the trailer. “Since I was little, I’ve always thought about space and the moon. I look forward to my own personal development through this project and want to feel new kinds of emotions and enlightenment,” he noted.
Maezawa chose a total of eight artists from different countries to accompany him as crew members on the journey to promote world peace, Japanese-American DJ Steve Aoki, American musician and YouTuber Tim Todd, Czech dancer and choreographer Yemi AD, Irish photographer Rhiannon Adam, filmmakers Karimi Ilia and Brendan Hall, Indian actor Dev Yoshi and TOP
