The Nea Ionia Security Department, in cooperation with the Northeast Attica Security Sub-Directorate and the Dionysos and Kifissia Security Departments of the Attica Security Directorate, dismantled a gang whose members were committing thefts from shops in various areas of Attica.
Specifically, last Thursday (8/12) in Exarchia and Kifissia, three foreigners aged 18, 23 and 32 were arrested and a case file was filed against them for joining and participating in a gang that carried out various thefts and damage to shops. Additionally, two 19-year-old foreigners were identified, members of the gang, one of whom is locked up in a detention center.
According to EL.AS. the 23-year-old and the 32-year-old were spotted by ‘Immediate Action’ police officers breaking into a gambling agency in Kifissia, which they entered by breaking the shop’s glass door and were stopped before they could complete their criminal activity.
In the context of investigating incidents of theft from shops with a specific method of action, from April 2022, in the wider geographical area of Attica, following a thorough investigation by EL.AS. the action of a criminal group with continuous methodical action and distinct roles was revealed.
As for the way the members of the criminal group acted, they operated at night, where they used various objects to break the glass panes of the shop entrance and then entered them and removed electronic devices and sums of money from inside.
From the preliminary investigation and after a combined evaluation of information data and evidence, 36 cases of theft in various types of shops in areas of Attica have been discovered so far.
Charges have been filed against members of the gang for shoplifting in areas outside of Attica.
The arrested were taken to the Athens District Attorney while the investigation to identify the full scope of their criminal activity continues.
