“We consider you allies, close partners in the central goal we have set for the balanced development of the country” the Prime Minister pointed out to the regional governors

“Looking at the future and the great opportunities, let me point out the fact that we have significant additional resources in the new regional programs: 8.1 billion in total, a 35% average increase”, noted Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the start of the meeting he had at the Maximos Palace with members of the Union of Regions of Greece. At the meeting, issues of the institutional framework regarding multi-level governance, economic issues and development tools (NSRF-Recovery Fund – PDE) were discussed, as well as issues of the operation of the Regions at the level of human resources.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the aim is to be in regular communication until the end of the government’s term, to be at the headquarters of each Region. The aim is to present a coherent development plan, as has already been done in Western Greece and the Peloponnese, with the exception of Central Macedonia – because Thessaloniki, as the Prime Minister said, has its annual honorarium – which will combine national and regional initiatives. “And so far at least the writing samples from the Regions where we have done this work have been extremely positive, so we have every reason to continue this effort,” the prime minister added.

“We consider you allies, close partners in the central goal we have set for the balanced development of the country. I say it again to you, I think we have proven that for us there are no two classes of citizens. Obviously there are no Regions of two categories, there are no Regional Units of two categories”, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized.

“The Regions are a development pillar of the economy and at the same time they are the institution that is closest to the citizens and therefore manages a series of daily issues, improving the living conditions of all our fellow citizens. And for this reason, today we want to discuss a number of issues related to our responsibilities and our operation, such as resources, financial tools from the NSRF that starts in the new year and the Regions are at the forefront of the starting line. And in fact, this year for the first time the Regions will have more than 1/3 of the total NSRF resources to manage, which we consider a great success for both the Government and ours and I think this choice will be justified in practice”, said the president of the Union of Regions of Greece and Regional Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas.

The meeting was attended by the president of EN.PE. and the regional governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the regional governor of Attica Giorgos Patoulis, the regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Christos Metios, the regional governor of the North Aegean Konstantinos Moutzouris, the regional governor of Western Greece Nektarios Farmakis, the regional governor of Western Macedonia Georgios Kasapidis, the regional governor of Cairo Alexandris Ip the regional governor of Thessaly Konstantinos Agorastos, the regional governor of the Ionian Islands Rodi Kratsa, the regional governor of Crete Stavros Arnautakis, the regional governor of South Aegean Giorgos Chatzimarkos, the regional governor of Peloponnese Panagiotis Nikas and the regional governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos.

From the government, the Minister of the Interior Makis Voridis, the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, the Deputy Minister of Finance Theodoros Skylakakis, the Deputy Minister of Development Yiannis Tsakiris, the Deputy Minister next to the Prime Minister Yiannis Bratakos, the Secretary General of Public Investments and NSRF Dimitris Skalkos and general secretary of Coordination Thanasis Kontogeorgis.
