A general alert of all police forces throughout Greece was ordered by the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police, by order of the political leadership, immediately after the announcement of death of 16-year-old Romawhich was shot at head from a police officer in Thessaloniki.

In the order signed by the head of the Corps, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Skoumas, he points out that all police officers must be fully prepared for “extraordinary serious and urgent official reasons”, in order to be called to their services if necessary. In this context, all permits are revoked, while the Direct Action centers have already sent the “first line” units (DIAS, OPKE, etc.) to remain in their services after their shift, until further notice.

At the same time, according to information, Roma camps are constantly monitored, while measures have been planned for the case of other mobilizations in the cities, with an order for the police forces to have a strong but not provocative presence and to intervene immediately in case of incidents.

From the Ministry of Citizen Protection, it was also clarified that nothing changes in the planning for the operations in Roma camps, which will continue, in order to fight crime and mainly to find weapons and drugs.

At the same time, officials of the ministry appeal to everyone to let the judiciary do its job, regarding the case of the 16-year-old and the police officer who shot him, and they ask that the tragic event not be exploited, in order to avoid consequences.
