President of “February 1, 2022 – In the Name of Alki” Lefteris Papas: “His father asked us “why?”. We poured our hearts out on the table and he wanted to participate as well. And that’s how we started.”
A silent memory march with candles will be organized in Thessaloniki, on February 1, 2023, in memory of the deceased Alkis Kampanos. The march will start at 7 pm from the place where the 19-year-old student died in a blind fan attack, on Gazi Street, in the Harilaou area, and will end at Lefko Pyrgos.
With this course, the events “running” during this period of the “February 1st 2022 Structure – In the Name of the Moose” will culminate. Citizens, sports fans and fans, athletes of all soccer and basketball teams and academies are invited to participate wearing, if they wish, their game shirts and uniforms.
THE “Structure of February 1, 2022 – In the Name of the Moose“was “born” a few days after the murder of the 19-year-old who shocked Greece. To this day it counts 300 membersfrom Greece and abroad, men and women of all ages and professions, fans and followers of different teams but also citizens who were shocked by the event.
As the president Lefteris Papas and the members Alexandros Tsibilis and Eleni Kolligas said, with their official request from September 2022 they asked the Greek State to declare February 1 as panhellenic fan/fan day. Also, a large mural will be created in the yard of a primary school in the municipality of Kalamaria on the theme of Alkis and coexistence, while a public call has been addressed to all fans and followers to be photographed, wearing insignia of the teams they love, together with counterparts from other teams.
At the same time, a video was presented, in which top footballers, such as Andre Vieirania of PAOK, Julian Cuesta of ARIS and Sergio Araujo of AEK, wearing orange t-shirts with Alki’s face, addressed messages in Greek against fan violence.
“A few days after the murder, we informed Alki’s parents about what we want to do. His father asked us “why?”. We poured our hearts out on the table and he wanted to participate as well. And so we started. We know what we do is hard. We are from different areas we give from our free time, some are not into sports but the killing hurt them a lot and others are sports fans and fans who love their teams and want fan violence to stop“, said Mr. Papas.
The purpose of creating the structure established in May 2022 is based on three axes, as stated in the press conference: Don’t forget Alkisto be next to victims of fan violence and to change the fan culture. Until now, they have been awarded Araujo for the celebration in the ARIS – AEK match, where he formed with his fingers the letter “A” in memory of the 19-year-oldas well as the cartoonist Christos Papanikos and the team of Panaitolikos for the shocking banner where Titormos holds the dead ARIS fan in his hands.
