Putting their own lives in immediate danger, four police officers of the Immediate Action and the vehicle of Republic Square in Thessaloniki, prevented today (18/12) this morning, at the last moment literally, the 18th gynecology in Greece. During their immediate intervention in a house in the center of the city, they found the would-be perpetrator with a knife in his hands, ready to kill his partner in front of the frightened eyes of their minor child.
According to secure information from GRTimes, it all started around 8 in the morning, when the Emergency Center received a call from a woman calling for help, managing to give only the address (without the exact location and area) as the man who she was threatening, trying to hang up the phone.
Police were instructed by the center to investigate all possible addresses, to find the person concerned in order to investigate a case of domestic violence and to intervene if and if necessary. When two police officers of the Immediate Action arrived at the spot, there was a female name on the bell, but it was never opened. Nevertheless, they found a way to enter the apartment building and as they climbed the stairs they heard voices through a specific apartment.
Directly mobilized, police officers hit the door to investigate the situation when they heard the alien man to ask them to leave explaining that he did not have a residence permit, and he did not hide them threatening yelling “I will kill you all”.
The police continued to ring the doorbell persistently, as they heard the screams of the woman and the crying of the minor child, while at the same time they informed the perpetrator that if he does not open the door, they will inform the prosecutor in order to break in.
At the same time, the two police officers asked for reinforcements of their force, which immediately went up to the four of them with the response of the vehicle of Republic Square, while an EKAB ambulance arrived at the spot. When they heard the woman for the second time, they finally broke down the door, seeing the perpetrator wielding a knife in his hands with which he hit the woman in the neck.
Police immediately ordered the perpetrator to throw the knife and surrender, but he stopped hitting the woman in front of the frightened eyes of the minor, who is disabled, turned the knife on himself and began injuring himself in the neck. . At the right moment and before he could end his life, the police, with timely and effective intervention, immobilized him, removed his knife and then arrested him. In fact, during this attempt, one police officer tore his jacket while the other wore bulletproof vests and was not in danger.
The woman who was injured – fortunately slightly – in the neck was transported by EKAB ambulance to the on-duty hospital for first aid, while the alleged perpetrator was taken to the White Tower Police Station, where a preliminary investigation is underway.
When there is cooperation, the police always do what they have to do
One of the participants in the coordinated intervention of the Police of Immediate Action and the vehicle of Republic Square, was the representative of the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers, Babis Havenetidis, who speaking to GRTimes, stressed the importance of direct cooperation between roads.
“Good cooperation between the police patrolling the city is a big deal. We are on the road every day, we see the escalation of violence and when we work together we can prevent everything “he notes and adds that” the seriousness of the incident forced us to intervene immediately and calmly. “If we were two minutes late, he would have killed the woman and he would have committed suicide.”
Fourteen years in the service I have never seen such a thing
The representative of POASY, in fact, does not fail to stand in the increase of cases of domestic violence, emphasizing that “after the quarantine, and despite the tightening of legislation, these incidents and especially attacks and murders against women have increased sharply. Today, however, is an incident that in my 14 years of service I have not encountered again. I repeat, however, that it is important to work together, as we do today with our colleagues. Only then will the police always be where they need to be. “Only then will we stop talking about what the police did, when the evil has been done.”
