“For 2023, approval is expected for the recruitment of 1,460 students at ASEI (Higher Military Educational Institutions) – ASSY (Higher Military Schools of Non-Commissioned Officers) and at the same time the actions to submit a request to the Ministry of the Interior (YPES) ​​for the recruitment of 2,900 EPOP within 2023 are underway .

This was announced by the Minister of National Defense, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, in response to a question submitted to the Parliament by the independent member of parliament, Angeliki Adamopoulou, on the subject of “Health and Safety at Work (Protection of the Health of Workers) of the Armed Forces”.

At the same time, he reminded that for 2022 the recruitment of 1,438 ASEI-ASSY students, 1,600 EPOP and 1,288 OBA students was approved, while for the renewal and strengthening of the ED staff, an increase of 2,580 positions for ASEI-ASSY is planned over a period of 5 years (2021-2026). and the recruitment of 8,000 EPOD and 5,000 OBAs.

With reference to the Minimum Admission Basis (MBA), established by Law 4777/2021 (Α΄25) and concerning the terms and conditions for the admission of prospective students to higher education, Mr. Panagiotopoulos clarified that the Ministry of Education in the context of of his responsibilities, has submitted a proposal for a targeted modification of the EBE coefficients, for the schools and departments of schools under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, for the academic year 2023-2024. In any case, the Ministry of Health took the necessary actions in order to transfer the vacancies that have arisen up to now to the next three years, increasing the number of admissions.

The Minister of National Defense announced that “the process of revising the Health and Safety System (HSS) of the Ministry of Defense has already been launched, in order to keep up with modern standards. In the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health”, he added, “all the relevant legislation for Safety Technicians and Occupational Doctors, as defined in Law 3850/2010 (A’84) and PD 135/2014 (A’218), has been incorporated, dealing with the issues of health and safety of workers in EDs, with periodic reviews-improvements and modifications thereof, in order to achieve the minimization of the risks faced by the staff during the performance of their duties, while the relevant departments of the Ministry of Health periodically organize appropriate trainings for the training of Security Techniques”.

Furthermore, the provisions of Law 3850/2010 (A’84), which concern the supervision of the health of employees and the taking of necessary measures for their protection and safety, are applied to all military personnel, through the more specific provisions of the existing legislation, and determine the procedures of the health examination, the judgment of physical ability and the placement-transfer of executives, who present health problems. Executives who have been transferred to special situations are placed in office duty positions, which on the one hand ensure the service needs in harmony with the executive’s desire, and on the other hand provide the maximum continuous medical coverage and care, based on the health issue of each executive.

Finally, in all the units – services of the ED, at all levels of the Hierarchy, the process of consultation, communication and information is ensured by the respective administration, through the statutory bodies of the Health and Safety bodies (Safety Technicians, Occupational Doctors, Inspectors of Health and Safety, Health and Safety Committees of the Workers), as provided for in the Health and Safety System (SYA/HYPETHA/2007). In any case, the entire staff is informed about the current legislation, which concerns the Health and Safety of workers in the workplace, as well as regularly issued orders-instructions for the implementation of the legislation, which are analyzed periodically during scheduled briefings of staff, concluded the minister.
