The case, which had been brought to light by an animal lover, had caused a storm of reactions
The 40-year-old accused of stomping to death a kitten last August in the center of Thessaloniki was released without any restrictive conditions after his apology to the investigator.
In his apology denied the criminal act attributed to him for “murder of a companion animal”, repeating – as in preliminary investigations – that he has nothing to do with the incident.
His identification resulted, according to what had become known, from material recorded by security cameras in the area, as well as witness statements. According to information, the 40-year-old, a university doctor and lawyer, questioned the content of the witness statements.
The case was brought to the attention of an animal welfare organization with a complaint to the authorities, while the preliminary investigation was carried out by the AT Lefkos Pyrgos.
According to the case file, the incident allegedly took place in the early hours of August 20, on Ermou Street. Security camera shop footage captures the perpetrator looking around to make sure no one is watching, approaching the kitten and then crushing it with his foot, before walking away as if nothing had happened.
