Monetary compensation for mental suffering to five relatives of a victim of the tragedy that occurred in Mati in July 2018, the Greek State is obliged to pay, as decided by the Administrative Court of First Instance of Athens.
According to “Kathimerini”, the State is asked to pay an amount of up to 300,000 euros to the five people, who had filed a lawsuit against the State, the Region of Attica and the Municipality of Rafina-Pikermio for the death of their 77-year-old relative in Neo Voutza .
According to what became known, the unfortunate 77-year-old tried to leave her house and find her husband, who was waiting to pick her up in his car to escape the fiery inferno, but the flames caught up with her.
In this case, the Administrative Court of First Instance of Athens ruled that the firefighters they estimated incorrectly the situation and failed to suggest earlier the preventive removal of residents of Neo Voutza from their homes. In addition, he rejected the State’s claims of “force majeure”, considering that the necessary measures were not taken for the safety of the residents of the area.
The same information states that similar group and individual lawsuits by fire victims and relatives of victims of the devastating fire of 2018 are pending in the administrative courts, with decisions expected in the near future.
