Life imprisonment for 45-year-old: He killed his inmate with 58 knives

In sentenced to life imprisonment 45 years old confined in prisons, who was found guilty of the murder of a 36-year-old man his fellow prisoner, at the Serres Nigrita Reservation Shopin July 2019. The Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki found him guilty, by a majority, of manslaughter with intent in a calm state of mind without recognizing any mitigating circumstances.

A 39-year-old man who was detained also sat on the bench of the same court in the same cell and was charged with complicity in murder. The jury acquitted him of murder but found him guilty of a misdemeanor for failing to notify prison officials to rush to the cell to save his cellmate’s life (prosecution dropped under a court decongestion provision).

According to the case file, the fatal incident occurred afterwards conflict for a trivial reason. As it emerged from the forensic findings, the 36-year-old, a citizen of Georgia, was found strangleddelivering 58 key hits to various parts of the body.

The 45-year-old, originally from Russia, who was serving a sentence for robberies, became the main defendant from the first moment. The involvement of the other accused (also a Georgian) arose from a DNA sample located on broomstickinstrument used during the fight, as it emerged from the forensic report.

In their apologies, the two defendants denied responsibility, “pointing” to each other as the perpetrator of the murder. The first, who was sentenced to Life imprisonment he said, among other things, that he intervened in the fight to separate the two sides, while the latter said he did not realize anything because at the time he was receiving methadone as part of a drug rehabilitation program.
