The arrest of two people who were active in illegal logging within a public forest area was carried out after coordinated actions by police officers of the Department of Crimes against Life and Personal Freedom of Thessaloniki Security Directorate. At the expense of two arrested aged 59 and 42 a case file was filed for illegal felony logging.

According to the APE-MPE, the two men were spotted yesterday at noon in a public forest mountainous area of ​​the Municipality of Volvi, riding in a car. truck and a search of the vehicle found a gasoline chainsaw, a spare chain and a can of gasoline.

As it emerged from the police investigation, earlier that day, but also during the summer, the two arrested had carried out illegal logging transporting many tons of wood to their own premises, while in one case they transported a quantity of wood to a private yard for a monetary fee.

From the autopsy performed by the Forest Department of Stavrosthe illegal logging of oak trees was found, while it is estimated that the damage caused to the public exceeds 33,600 euros.

However, the 59-year-old man is also allegedly involved in the case of the tragic death of the 51-year-old Albanian in Arethousa, Thessaloniki, whose body was found in advanced decay in a forest area where he had gone for illegal logging with the arrested man. He had a chainsaw wound on his leg.

It is noted that the unfortunate man had been located after investigations by the Department of Crimes against Life and Personal Freedom, with the assistance of staff from the Investigations Department of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate, the Sub-Directorate of Criminal Investigations of Northern Greece and the police dog “Spark” of the Police Dog Companion Department of the Sub-Directorate of the Special Police Forces of Northern Greece and suffered a chainsaw wound on his leg.

A case file was filed against the 59-year-old for manslaughter by the Crimes Against Life section of the Thessaloniki Police Department. At the same time, there is a prosecutor’s investigation whose goal is to examine the possible commission of other crimes such as fatal exposure or physical injuries.
