Auction for a good cause organized by the municipality of Thessaloniki at Casa Bianca. He took out 150 bottles of single varietal wines from the urban vineyard of the city.
Specifically, 50 bottles of white Robola variety and 100 red bottles of Xinomavro variety with labels copies of works of art of the Municipal Gallery of Thessaloniki by emblematic artists such as Eggonopoulos, N. Gyzi, A. Fasianou, P. Regou, D. Mytara, G. Sikeliotis, K. Lousta, N. Kessanli, G. Lazoga, G. Moralis, P. Moschidis, P. Papanakou, N. Sahini, L. Venetoulia and many others.
Both the mayor of Thessaloniki and the deputy mayor of Tourism and Culture participated in the auction.
About 480 roots of Malagouzia, Robola, Agiorgitikos and Xinomavros, which brought to the land of Thessaloniki an excellent wine, “Gorgona”, are looking for their next owner.
The proceeds from the auction will be allocated to support the “Agios Stylianos” Municipal Nursery. To support the aims of Agios Stylianos, approximately 4,500 euros were collected.
Each bottle is unique and on the back has information about the vineyard, the wine and information about the artwork and its creator. These will be auctioned in 62 different package-offers, with single bottles, duos, trios, quads and sixes.
The mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, said that finally something that has been happening for years in Paris and New York is also happening in Thessaloniki. “Together with Vangelis Gerovasileiou and the people of the municipality of Thessaloniki, we produced a wine that is made next to the Kavtanzoglio Stadium that will be auctioned tonight for the purposes of Agios Stylianos”, he emphasized. In parallel, he looked back on how the idea for urban vineyard creativity began after a trip to Paris in 2012.
The director of Marketing and Communication of the Union “Winemakers of Northern Greece”, Alexandra Anthidou, who has taken over the auction and as she said, has already procured… two hammers, one bronze and one wooden. Regarding the auction, he said the goal is to raise the price as much as possible to raise more money. As he estimated, people from the municipality, art and wine lovers will participate in the auction.
Margarita Salpigidou, head of the Municipal Gallery Department of the municipality of Thessaloniki, said that this is an original act that wants to achieve a good goal. After all, he emphasized that no bottle will end up in the recycling bin but will adorn every home. He added that it was a project that required a lot of planning.
