This Christmas, the Hellenic Society of Rheumatology & Professional Association of Rheumatologists of Greece (ERE-EPERE) is replacing the dinner that is traditionally offered as part of its annual Panhellenic Congress, which this year took place from December 8-11, 2022 in Athens, with a Love Offer for the children who need it! He takes care of the Christmas meal and the gifts for the children in the SOS Children’s Village of Vari, which will be delivered at a meeting of the President of ERE, Mrs. Kataxakis and the director of the village, Mr. Lemonis. Nothing can compare to the smells of the family table on a festive day and the wonderful memories that will be engraved in the soul of every child like a talisman for their adult life.
At a time when there is a significant increase in criminal acts of child abuse, especially at young ages, and an increase in the poverty rate in Greece, reaching 29.5% and with a greater risk of poverty or social exclusion for children 17 and under, the contribution of all counts.
SOS Children’s Villages of Greece host and care for children who are orphaned, abandoned or children whose families cannot raise them, giving them the opportunity to build long-term relationships within a family.
They believe that every child should grow up in a family, with love, respect and security. They actively support the institution of Foster Care in the context of the relevant Law and work closely with the Regions of the country and public child protection agencies, with the aim of promoting Foster Care and restoring the children housed in these agencies to a family care environment.
For children who cannot be rehabilitated in foster or adoptive families and for as long as necessary, they provide care in one of the SOS Children’s Villages, where children grow up in small families, with the presence of a stable care person and surrounded by a team of specialized professionals, for the best possible support of children. All biological siblings stay together and live in the same house, so they share a common past and create a common future.
