“The Greek minority in Northern Epirus should be a bridge of friendship and cooperation for the good of both peoples” emphasized Pyrros Dimas
Our gold medalist mentioned the strong emotions he experienced during his visit to Chimarra with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis Pyrros Dimas in an interview with SKAI and Sia Kosionis.
“And only when the prime minister of our country visits a place like Khimarra that the Hoxha regime imprisoned, killed and forced by force… These people felt for the first time that Greece opens its wings for them, protects them, cares for them, I felt the same way. There are the bones of my parents, my grandparents. I am proud that I did not miss this historic moment, I was there. I would not miss this day…” emphasized Pyrros Dimas.
As he explained, “it is a very historic day for the people of Chimarrio, for all of Hellenism, we are not talking about parties, about party flags, we are talking about Greece for people who have kept Greece inside them, the language, the religion. It is the castle of Hellenism. We have all seen these people how proud they are, and how much love they have for Greece despite what everyone has been through. Unfortunately, even today, the Chimariots are not recognized as a minority”.
“For the Prime Minister’s visit today, I had phone calls with compatriots everyone is flying in the cloudshe stated.
“We are waiting for the next step… The prime minister said this to the Albanian side. The Greek minority in Northern Epirus to be a bridge of friendship and cooperation for the good of both peoples. Albania is heading towards the EU and I believe that whether it wants to or not it should respect the Greek minority in Albania. I wish what happened yesterday will have a sequel. I believe that the prime minister meant that he will have continuity, he will do things for the Northern Epirotians and the elderly, in general he has put all issues on the table and we will see better days.”
Asked if on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s visit and those who ask if there is any news about his political future, our gold medalist commented “thank you very much to those who want to see me in politics again… Maybe one day, but not right now”.
