The 41-year-old used an electric scooter as a means of transition and escape from the places of theft, while channeling the stolen goods to pawn shops

A 41-year-old man was arrested on Friday in Kolonaki by police officers of the Property Crimes Department of the Attica Security Directorate, who is accused of aggravated theft in a row.

In particular, during the period of the last two months, the Property Crimes Department established the commission of thefts by the method of employment from jewelry stores in various areas of Attica and mainly in Kolonaki, in which the perpetrator, pretending to be a customer, removed jewelry without being noticed from the employees and was leaving.

The accused “struck again”, on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at a jewelry store in Kolonaki, leaving with a large amount of valuable jewelry.

After using investigative data, the police officers identified the 41-year-old as the perpetrator of the theft. In order to locate and arrest him, a special police team was set up, where they immediately carried out a search, they spotted the accused in Kolonaki riding an electric scooter, outside a jewelry store and preparing to enter the store, they immobilized him and took him to GADA , where he was arrested. In a physical search conducted on the 41-year-old, a mobile phone and jewelry were found and confiscated, which, as it was ascertained, he had removed from another jewelry store in Athens a little earlier. Also, the electric scooter he used as a means of transition and escape from the places of the thefts was confiscated.

From the preliminary investigation, 12 cases of theft using the same method in jewelry stores in Athens, Kolonaki, Vrilissia, Nea Smyrni, Piraeus and one case of theft from a pharmacy in Athens, from where he removed a backpack, were solved. The 41-year-old funneled the stolen goods to pawn shops, reaping financial benefits. According to ELAS, the defendant allegedly had a total benefit from his criminal activity of 62,610 euros.

In addition, the 41-year-old has previously been accused of similar offences. The defendant was taken to the Athens District Attorney’s Office, while the investigation into the involvement of other perpetrators continues.
